Advanced Exploration -- Gold - Detour Lake Area, Quebec
  • Centrally located within the Company's Detour Gold Trend Project, approximately 45 kilometres east of the Detour Gold Deposit, the Martiniere Property hosts an expanding, high-grade gold system
  • To date the Martiniere gold system has been traced for over 1,500 metres and remains open in all directions. The system is located approximately 2.0 kilometres north of the regional scale Sunday Lake Deformation Zone which hosts the Detour Gold deposit -- the Sunday Lake Deformation Zone traverses the southern portion of the Martiniere Property and is largely untested across the Property.
  • Martiniere Gold System, like most large gold systems throughout the Abitibi, hosts a number of promising zones of gold mineralization and newly discovered gold occurrences.
  • Martiniere West Zone - High-grade gold system traced for over 400 metres along strike with shallow drilling and open in all directions; tested to 250 meters vertical depth and open along strike and to depth.
  • Central Zone -- Initially discovered by Cyprus Canada the Central Zone consists of several high-grade intercepts located approximately 300 metres along projected strike from the West Zone.
  • Bug Lake Zone -- The Bug Lake Fault is a north-northwest trending fault zone which separates the Martiniere West and Martiniere East areas. This fault zone has been "re-healed (filled)" by a zone of silica alteration, veining and gold mineralization. On-going drilling has intersected this new discovery for over 400 metres along strike and it remains open in all directions.
  • ME-16 Zone -- The ME-16 Zone is defined by a series of holes which represent the most easterly tests of the Martiniere Gold System completed to date. These high-grade intercepts remain open to the east as does the entire Martiniere Gold System.
  • The vast majority of the 9.5 x 7.0 kilometre Martiniere Property remains untested

Gold Potential

Balmoral is in the process of defining an important new gold bearing system on the Martiniere Property. To date the Company has intersected gold mineralization within a 1,500 metre long by 400+ metre wide open-ended corridor which is located approximately 2,000 metres north of the regional scale Sunday Lake Deformation Zone. The Martiniere Gold System is already the second largest gold system along the Detour Trend and has been rapidly expanding with every drill program producing new discoveries and resource development opportunities.

Visible Gold Mineralization Hole MDW-11-04
Gold mineralization on the Martiniere Property is typical of gold deposits throughout the Abitibi region of Ontario and Quebec. It exhibits a strong element of structural (shear/fault) control, is gold dominant with only minor associated silver mineralization, demonstrates a strong association with certain lithologies or lithological contacts and, to date, demonstrates significant vertical continuity. The vast majority of the large gold deposits in the Abitibi have vertical dimensions which exceed their horizontal dimensions -- often by a fact of 3 or 4:1. Several deposits have been mined to vertical depths exceeding 1,000 metres at average grades in the 7-8 g/t range.

The Martiniere Gold System is located in area of complete overburden cover which has historically hidden it from the prying eyes of prospectors and explorers. Work by Balmoral, building on the initial 1990's discovery of gold in the Martiniere area, has led to the discovery of 9 high-grade zones/occurrences of gold on the property. With the recent identification of the Bug Lake and new bonanza grade Footwall discovery the scale of the Martiniere Gold System and the opportunity if represents for Balmoral and our shareholders continues to increase.

Base Metal Potential

In 2011 Balmoral reported the discovery of a volcanogenic massive sulphide ("VMS") system on the Martiniere Property. VMS systems similar to the one discovered at Martiniere are globally important suppliers of copper and zinc and can also contain significant gold, silver, lead as well as recoverable quantities of other metals.

Immediately to the south of the Martiniere Property is the former producing Selbaie deposit which produced 53 million tonnes of ore at average grades of 1.0% Copper, 1.9% Zinc, 41 g/t Silver and 0.6 g/t Gold. The Mattagami VMS camp, which hosted a number of productive VMS deposits, sits in the same geological domain approximately 100 kilometres to the east.

While the initial VMS discovery on the Maritiniere property has proven to be dominantly iron (pyrite) rich drill hole MDE-11-09 intersected a 0.50 metre strongly brecciated interval associated with the base of the massive sulphide zone which returned 74.60 g/t gold and 1,390 g/t silver along with strongly elevated copper, zinc, cadmium and tungsten. This intercept suggests potential within this system, and potentially in association with other as yet defined systems elsewhere on the property, for the discovery of a polymetallic VMS discovery.
