MARTINIERE GOLD SYSTEM
Martiniere Gold System - Schematic Long Section
The Martiniere Gold System is a large gold bearing system which has been discovered underneath extensive overburden cover in the south-central portion of the Martiniere Property. The Martiniere Gold System is centered around a prominent northeast trending structural zone - the Martiniere Structural Zone ("MSZ") which has to date been traced to date for roughly 1,500 metres along strike and which remains open in all directions. The MSZ is located approximately 2,000 metres north of the northern boundary of the regional scale Sunday Lake Deformation Zone which is located at the southern end of the Property.
The MSZ hosts a number of zones of gold mineralization including the Martiniere West, ME-16/23 and Central Zones. The MSZ is cross-cut by a second gold-bearing structure, the north-south trending Bug Lake Fault Zone. As indicated on the long section above the Bug Lake Fault separates mafic intrusive rocks to the west from mafic volcanic rocks to the east. The Bug Lake corridor is 100-200 metres wide a hosts several definable zones of gold mineralization including the high-grade Footwall, Hanging Wall and the broad Bug Lake Zone which is located along the Bug Lake Fault itself.
Limited drilling conducted outside the MSZ has indicated the presence of a number of other gold mineralized structures on the Property.
Martiniere West Zone
Martiniere West Long Section
The Martiniere West Zone is a high-grade zone of gold mineralization located within the west-central portion of the MDZ. The West Zone is hosted by quartz gabbro phase of the West Gabbro. The Zone strikes to the northeast parallel to the MDZ and West Gabbro and dips steeply to the northwest. To date drilling has indicated a moderately steep plunge to the Zone to the southwest within the dip plane.
The Martiniere West Zone is marked by moderate shearing associated with moderate to strong silicification and sulphide mineralization. A strongly silicified central core is flanked by several less well developed structures in the footwall and hanging wall which can also locally contain significant gold mineralization. Anomalous gold mineralization typically occurs over intervals of 20-70 metres surrounding the high-grade core of the system. The high-grade core ranges from just over one metre to over 22 metres in width. High-grade gold mineralization is typically associated with strong silicification, 5-20% disseminated sulphide mineralization (pyrite>>arsenopyrite>chalcopyrite). Approximately one third of the high-grade intervals reported to date contain very fine-grained visible gold mineralization.
Drilling to date has intersected the high-grade core of the Martiniere West Zone for a little over 400 metres along strike, to a vertical depth of 320 metres below surface and down-plunge for approximately 400 metres. The Zone remains open in all directions.
Bug Lake Zone
Bug Lake Zone Long Section
The Bug Lake Gold Zone is centered approximately 600 metres northeast of the West Zone. The Bug Lake Zone is a broad zone of faulting, brecciation, and gold mineralization which is located along the fault zone of the same name -- Bug Lake Fault Zone. Discovered in 2012 the Bug Lake Zone has been traced in recent drilling for over 375 metres along strike and to a vertical depth of over 225 metres. The Fault and Zone dip approximately 50 degrees to the east with the fault separating the West Gabbro from mafic volcanic rocks to the east.
The Bug Lake mineralized corridor is over 100 metres wide and features not only the Bug Lake Zone itself but the high to bonanza grade Footwall and Hanging Wall Zones (see below). Gold mineralization within the Bug Lake Zone itself is associated with zones of faulting, brecciation, shearing, carbonitization, silicification, sulphide deposition and quartz-carbonate veining located along the Bug Lake fault. The strongest gold grade are typically associated with the lower portion of the zone, along the actual fault or along the margins of a quartz porphyry body which parallels the Bug Lake fault 530 metres in the Hanging Wall.
Visible gold mineralization is rare within the Bug Lake Zone. Increased gold grade is typically associated with increased pyrite content and or zones of localized shearing along the contacts of the quartz porphyry. Locally the Bug Lake Zone intersects portions of the Martiniere East VMS system and in these areas multiple fragments of pyritic massive sulphide are surrounded by zones of strong silicification.
Initial modelling suggests the Bug Lake fault has a sigmoidal dip plane with a steep section near surface flattening to near vertical at depths between 50 and 200 metres (plunging south) before steepening again. To date the strongest gold mineralization has been intersected along the steeper sections of the fault. A poorly defined east-west trending fault zone appears to offset the Zone to the south but recent drilling has confirmed the gold mineralization continues to the south into untested territory. The Zone remains open in all directions.
BL Footwall Zone
BL Footwall Zone Long Section
The Bug Lake ("BL") Footwall Zone was discovered while testing the Bug Lake Zone in the summer of 2012. The discovery intercept returned a bonanza grade intercept of 273 g/t gold over 3.88 metres. The Footwall Zone is located approximately 40-60 metres into the footwall west of the Bug Lake Fault. The Zone is hosted by the West Gabbro which also hosts the Martiniere West Zone.
Initial testing indicates the Footwall Zone dips steeply to the east and strikes roughly parallel to the Bug Lake Fault. The Footwall Zone is associated with a complex zone of multi-phase veining, variable sulphide content (py+/- cp) and locally spectacular visible gold mineralization. Additional results from the Footwall Zone remain pending.
BL Hanging Wall
BL Hanging Wall Zone Long Section
Several widely spaced holes testing the Bug Lake Zone have intersected a narrower zone of brecciation, weak silica-fuchsite-carbonate alteration and sulphide mineralization located 60-70 metres in the hanging wall to the Bug Lake Zone near surface. This Zone, which also parallels the Bug Lake Zone, locally hosts fine-grained visible gold mineralization and has returned several multi-ounce assays.
Initial drilling indicates the Hanging Wall Zone dips steeply to the east (85 degrees) and that it may intersect (and pass through?) the Bug Lake Zone at depth as the Bug Lake Zone begins to flatten. Thus it could, like the Footwall Zone, end up in the West Gabbro beneath the fault. The Zone has thus far been intersected over a strike length of 300 metres, to a depth of 175 metres and remains open in all directions.
ME-16 Zone
Drilling has indicated the presence of a northeast trending (West Zone parallel) zone of strong shearing, carbonate alteration and gold mineralization approximately 300 metres east of the Bug Lake Zone first intersected in hole MDE-11-16. Drilling in this area has intersected a number of promising intercepts including 12.93 g/t gold over 9.33 metres in MDE-11-16. This area of gold mineralization continues to the eastern most section of drilling conducted to date.
Local faulting and an abundance of early and later quartz and quartz-feldspar porphyry dykes are present in the ME-16 area and additional drilling will be required to better define this zone.
Central Zone
Located midway between the West and Bug Lake Gold Zones the Central Zone was originally discovered by Cyprus Canada in 1996. Drilling between 1996 and 2006 returned a number of high-grade gold intercepts within the West Gabbro. Since acquiring the Martiniere Property in 2010 Balmoral has not conducted follow-up drilling in the Central Zone area but recent discoveries in the Bug Lake area may indicate that there are multiple stages of gold mineralization in the Central Zone area. Additional drilling is warranted given the promising grade x thickness of a number of the gold intercepts in the Central Zone area.
Exploration Drilling
Limited exploration drilling conducted outside the MDZ has intersected anomalous zones of gold mineralization in a number of areas of the Martiniere Property. Most of these new discoveries remain to be followed up and recent soil sampling on the property has identified a number of additional targets.
