Balmoral is a proudly Canadian exploration and development company focused on creating shareholder value through the acquisition, aggressive exploration and development of high-grade, high value based and precious metal assets in the major gold districts of Canada. Canada offers a combination of accessibility, exploration and mining expertise, legal and tenure certainty, mining history/culture and geological opportunity which is virtually unparalleled on a global basis.
Balmoral's current focus is a portfolio of advanced and to early stage gold and nickel-copper-PGE discoveries located in the Canadian provinces of Quebec and Ontario, mainly within the prolific Abitibi greenstone belt. This belt of ancient rocks is home to the Detour Lake, Casa Berardi, Timmins, Kirkland, Rouyn-Noranda and Val-D'Or gold mining camps. Combined these high-grade gold camps have produced well over 130 million ounces of gold -- the 2nd largest accumulation of gold on Earth. The Abitibi has also been home to some of the most exciting new gold discoveries in the last 5 years and is a focal point for M&A activity in the gold sector with recent take-overs including Aurizon, Brigus, Trelawney, Prodigy, Queenston and West Timmins Mining. As well the best hosts some of the most prolific VMS (copper-zinc-gold-silver) districts on earth, including the Selbaie and Mattagami Districts located immediately south of the Company's Detour Project and a number of nickel-copper-PGE deposits.
Balmoral's management team has extensive experience in this world-class belt having most recently led West Timmins Mining Inc.. West Timmins was acquired, in an all-share deal valued at $424 million, by Lake Shore Gold Inc. in 2009 following the discovery of the high-grade Thunder Creek gold deposit in Timmins, Ontario. In addition our team has extensive VMS and Nickel-PGE experience having worked on globally on both deposit types.
Utilizing that experience Balmoral has acquired one of the largest land positions in the Abitibi and now controls over 700 square kilometres along the Sunday/Detour Lake deformation zone in the province of Quebec, Canada. The Sunday/Detour Lake deformation zone is one of the principal gold-bearing fault systems in the Abitibi greenstone belt and is home to the 18+ million ounce Detour Gold deposit. Since acquiring the first of its Detour Gold Trend Properties in late 2010 Balmoral has made a series of high-grade gold, and most recently a high-grade nickel-copper-PGE discoveries, in the wilderness of Central Quebec. These discoveries led to the Balmoral exploration team being named "Prospectors of the Year" in Quebec in 2013.
