Mineralization

There are six known mineral occurrences located through the property which contain anomalous gold, silver, copper, zinc or iron. Three of these occurrences contain gold in settings consistent with mesothermal style gold systems. Two occurrences are more consistent with VMS settings and contain base metal anomalies. One final occurrence, within the Groupe Taibi domain, is characterized by banded iron formations.

Gold Mineralization

The majority of historic exploration programs in the area did not focus on or test the gold potential on the HWY 810 property. Improved understanding of mesothermal style gold mineralization at the nearby Detour Lake mine, Casa Berardi mine, and at Balmoral’s Bug Lake and Martiniere West deposits has helped Balmoral define a set of unique characteristics deemed favourable for emplacement of this style of mineralization. Balmoral believes that the host rocks present in proximity to interpreted regional scale structures exhibit similarities to the conditions present at gold deposits elsewhere in the Abitibi greenstone belt.

Cu-Zn VMS Deposits

Historic exploration work within the property package has largely been focussed on the VMS potential of the Groupe d’Orvilliers-Desmazures domain as it contains the greatest concentration of EM conductors. In addition to this, there are several known VMS deposits in the region including the former producing +50 Mt Selbaie Cu-Zn-Ag-Au mine, located 16 km NNE of the centre point of the property, and the former producing gold-rich Estrades mine, located 20 km ESE of the centre point of the property.

Evaluation of geophysical and historic data by Balmoral indicates that rocks within the Groupe d’Enjalran-Bapst and Groupe d’Orvilliers-Desmazures have potential to host VMS style mineralization.
